Why fire extinguishers?

Nevertheless, according to a survey conducted for the Austrian Road Safety Board, almost a third of respondents did not have a fire extinguisher in their household. Only half of those who had a fire extinguisher stated that they had the device checked regularly (every 2 years) for functionality. Yes, fire extinguishers can prevent worse and even save lives in an emergency, but only if they are regularly checked and maintained professionally: whether at home or at work!
Are fire extinguishers compulsory in Austria?
There is currently no obligation to keep a fire extinguisher in stock in private areas (although we explicitly recommend this safety measure). In the workplace, the regulations are much stricter: the defined extinguishers must be clearly marked in the designated place. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that they are freely accessible at all times.
How must fire extinguishers be maintained in Austria?
In Austria, fire extinguishers must be inspected every two years by a certified expert in accordance with legal requirements. The inspection must be documented with the inspection sticker on the device in accordance with ÖNORM-F1053.
