Oil tank inspection

Not only the oil heating system as such, but also the oil tank is subject to special care. Without regular tank cleaning, deposits can build up and contaminate the pipe system and the heating system. This can lead to reduced heating performance. This increases the oil requirement and therefore also the costs! It is also important to ensure that condensation does not form on the inside walls of the tank, which can cause corrosion damage.

We therefore recommend having a tank check and, if necessary, tank cleaning carried out in spring after heating

Statutory regulations:

Tank systems with storage volumes > 1000 liters (several tanks must be added together) must be checked every 5 years with regard to the effectiveness of water protection, as they contain substances hazardous to water such as heating oil and fuels.

Checking the tank system:

In the course of the inspection of the tank system, the tightness of the containers and pipes of the secondary safety equipment (oil seal sump, oil coating) should be checked in particular. The findings must be submitted to the authorities.

Only licensed companies are authorized to inspect the tank system. After a successful inspection, they certify that the system is free of defects.

The following companies are allowed to do this:

  • Civil engineer specializing in mechanical and process engineering
  • Engineering office for building technology and mechanical engineering
  • Trade license holder regarding heating and ventilation technology
  • Tank cleaner
  • Tank manufacturers and dealers
  • Metal technology trade license holder for metal and mechanical engineering

If findings are not submitted on time, fines of up to EUR 3,630 may be imposed by the authorities.

An inspection is required every 5 years in accordance with the Water Rights Act.
